Coinbase has transitioned the BLUECHIP-USD trading pair to limit-only mode on both Coinbase Exchange and Coinbase Advanced. This measure restricts trading activity by disabling market orders, requiring users to set specific price points for both buy and sell transactions.
The exchange employs this phased onboarding strategy for newer, lower-cap tokens to manage liquidity. Similar procedures were previously applied to other assets, such as GRASS-USD and GROVE-USD, before they were transitioned to unrestricted trading once sufficient order book depth was achieved.
BLUECHIP, which operates primarily on the Base blockchain, is currently subject to these constraints. During this phase, liquidity may be thinner, potentially leading to wider bid-ask spreads compared to fully mature trading pairs on the platform.
Traders are advised to monitor the spread between the highest bid and lowest ask. A narrowing spread typically indicates increased participation from market makers and improved order book health, while a wide spread may signal limited demand.
