Jesse Pollak, head of the Base network at Coinbase, announced a shift in focus toward financial infrastructure during the Token2049 conference in Singapore on October 7, 2026. He identified tokenized equities and non-dollar stablecoins as the primary drivers for the next phase of crypto adoption.
In August 2026, Coinbase launched 1:1-backed tokenized equities on the Base network, featuring shares of Nvidia, Meta, Apple, and Google. These assets allow for 24/7 trading, with corporate actions managed via Chainlink oracles and on-chain multipliers.
As of early October 2026, daily spot trading volume for these tokenized equities on Base exceeded $100 million. The network is now exploring lending services, where users could use their tokenized equity portfolios as collateral to borrow stablecoins.
Pollak stated that the target loan-to-value ratio for these upcoming lending products is set at 30–40%. This development places Base in direct competition with other market participants, including Robinhood and Kraken, which are also active in the tokenized asset sector.
