Coinbase and Moov announced a partnership on September 10, 2026, to integrate stablecoin payment infrastructure into community banks and credit unions. The collaboration allows financial institutions to offer stablecoin services directly through their existing systems without building new technology stacks.
The infrastructure supports consumer payments, merchant acceptance, settlement, and payouts. For business transactions, Moov will utilize Coinbase’s custodial accounts. This setup aims to provide regulated digital asset tools to local institutions, enabling them to compete with larger market players.
Research by PYMNTS Intelligence indicates that while interest in digital currency is growing among younger demographics, general consumer awareness of stablecoins remains limited. Data shows 28% of millennials are interested in using stablecoins for payments, compared to 31% for cryptocurrency.
Conversely, the study found that 94% of baby boomers and seniors express little to no interest in stablecoin payments. The report suggests that stablecoins have yet to establish a distinct identity for most consumers, who often associate them with the volatility of broader cryptocurrency markets.
