Microsoft has updated the system requirements for its Clipchamp video editor, which is now integrated into Windows 11. The application now requires a minimum of 8 GB of RAM, a 64-bit operating system, and a modern web browser, specifically Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

For optimal performance, the company recommends using at least 16 GB of RAM and a dedicated graphics card. The software also requires significant free disk space to handle temporary files during video processing, filtering, and exporting, as it needs more space than the total size of the imported media files.

Users with older hardware may experience performance issues, including system freezes, slow file imports, or unexpected application crashes. Microsoft advises that even if a computer meets the general Windows 11 requirements, it may not be sufficient for a smooth experience with the current version of Clipchamp.

Clipchamp was originally released in 2013 by the Australian company Clipchamp Pty Ltd and was acquired by Microsoft in 2021. Since 2022, it has served as the default video editor for Windows 11, replacing previous tools like Movie Maker and Video Editor.

The application continues to receive updates, including new interface designs, AI-powered features, and text-to-speech tools. These functional additions have contributed to higher hardware demands compared to the legacy Movie Maker software, which required only 1 GB of RAM in 2012.
