Clearlake Capital has secured full ownership of Chelsea Football Club after acquiring the minority stakes held by Todd Boehly and Mark Walter. The transaction, completed on September 16, 2026, concludes a partnership that had been deteriorating for two years. As part of the exit, Boehly has resigned from his position as chairman of the club.

Boehly and Walter each held a 12.8% stake in the club and received a combined total of approximately £950 million for their shares. This deal values Chelsea at roughly £5 billion, including debt. The club was originally acquired from Roman Abramovich in 2022 for a price between £2.3 billion and £2.5 billion.

Disagreements regarding stadium development and sporting operations led to tensions between the parties, with buyout discussions commencing in August 2026. Despite the change in ownership, both sides have indicated that there will be no immediate shifts in leadership or strategic direction. Hansjörg Wyss remains a stakeholder in the club.
