The People's Bank of China reported that its gold reserves were valued at $350.08 billion at the end of August, increasing from $306.35 billion at the end of July.
By the end of July 2026, the PBOC had maintained a gold-buying streak for 21 consecutive months, the longest period of continuous acquisition in the bank's history.
Official holdings reached 76.08 million fine troy ounces, or approximately 2,366 tonnes, by the end of July. This reflects an increase of 640,000 ounces, or about 20 tonnes, compared to June's 75.44 million ounces.
The July addition was the largest single-month increase since October 2023. From January to July 2026, the PBOC added approximately 60 tonnes of gold to its reserves.
Gold now represents approximately 8% of China's total foreign-exchange reserves, which were valued at around $3.42 trillion at the end of July.
