The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and three other departments have released a draft notice regarding automotive design and testing. The document mandates that door handle designs must ensure functionality in extreme conditions and emergency accessibility, effectively banning fully concealed door handles.

New vehicle models submitted for approval starting January 1, 2027, must comply with the new technical guidelines and safety assessments. For existing models, manufacturers are required to submit verification materials by July 1, 2027. Failure to meet these standards may result in production halts and mandatory recalls.

Industry expert Zhang Hong noted that the regulations also target zero-gravity seats, requiring the addition of locking mechanisms and anti-misoperation modules to prevent use while the vehicle is in motion. These changes may necessitate updates to door modules, seat frames, and motor controllers.

Regarding current vehicles with hidden door handles, experts suggest that modifications might not require complete replacement. However, if hardware cannot be retrofitted to include mechanical emergency release mechanisms, manufacturers may be forced to discontinue specific batches and initiate recall procedures.
