Authorities in Taizhou, Zhejiang, have launched investigations into 53 entities related to the production of non-standard electric bicycles. This action follows a report by CCTV News highlighting illegal practices, including the use of pre-installed decoding controllers and the sale of new bikes as used vehicles to bypass national safety standards.

Local regulators have already seized a portion of the electric bicycles and halted production lines at Zhejiang Zuanbao Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. Additionally, 58 cases have been filed regarding more than 8,000 vehicles suspected of illegal modifications.

The city is currently drafting a high-quality development action plan for the electric two-wheeler industry. This coincides with the upcoming implementation of the GB 17761—2024 safety technical specifications, which will mandate CCC certification and new fire resistance and weight limits starting September 1, 2025.
