Charles Schwab maintains a neutral outlook on equities, according to chief investment strategist Liz Ann Sonders. The firm currently prefers commodities over traditional stocks and bonds, marking a shift from the conventional 60/40 portfolio model. Sonders emphasized that there is no universal asset allocation strategy suitable for every investor.
The firm manages $13.4 trillion in client assets, a scale that Sonders cites as evidence that investment decisions must be tailored to individual goals, risk tolerance, and time horizons. While some market strategists suggest a 60/20/20 split that includes commodities, Sonders declined to endorse any specific fixed ratio for portfolios.
Market interest in commodities remains high, particularly in gold. According to the World Gold Council, gold-backed funds recorded inflows of $18 billion in August. This figure represents the second-largest monthly inflow on record, pushing total holdings in these funds to an all-time high as the debate over asset diversification continues.
