ChargePoint CEO Rick Wilmer reports that demand for electric vehicles remains high, citing a 96 percent retention rate among EV owners. According to company data for 2025, the number of charging sessions increased by 34 percent, while the installation of new charging stations grew by only 16 percent.
Wilmer identifies 30 percent utilization as the critical threshold for workplace charging. When usage exceeds this level during a standard eight-hour workday, employees frequently encounter occupied chargers, leading to dissatisfaction. This trend often follows the initial installation of chargers, which encourages more staff to switch to electric vehicles.
To address infrastructure needs, ChargePoint has introduced a new line of Level 2 AC chargers for the North American market. These units are designed to be more affordable and powerful than previous models. The company is also collaborating with Eaton to integrate smart breaker technology for bidirectional charging capabilities.
The company aims to lower the cost of vehicle-to-home energy solutions, allowing consumers to power their residences during outages. Wilmer emphasizes that widespread vehicle-to-grid adoption requires industry standardization and a shift toward AC-capable bidirectional vehicles, as current DC solutions are physically large and expensive.
