Charge-M8 has integrated its Libra dynamic load balancing hardware with the emPACT charge point management system from Electric Miles. This partnership allows commercial sites with multiple EV chargers to manage power distribution more effectively by utilizing real-time building demand data transmitted via the OCPP protocol.
The system continuously monitors power availability and adjusts charger output to prevent exceeding supply limits. By avoiding fixed charging caps, operators can maximize their existing electrical capacity without the need for expensive infrastructure upgrades.
Beyond local load management, the integration connects to the Electric Miles SmartFlex platform. This enables site operators to participate in grid flexibility trading. The platform is linked to all six UK distribution system operators and the National Energy System Operator.
SmartFlex facilitates grid balancing by shifting or reducing charging loads during peak demand periods. The platform has already executed over 40 000 grid flexibility events, turning commercial EV charging infrastructure into a source of recurring revenue for site owners.
