The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has introduced new regulatory proposals aimed at crypto exchanges that provide leveraged products to retail customers. Chairman Michael Selig stated that only platforms with federal registration will be authorized to offer such services in the United States.
The proposed rules, specifically Regulation CTX and Regulation CAM, mandate that exchanges must comply with strict oversight and anti-manipulation protocols. These measures are designed to align domestic crypto operations with broader financial standards and restrict high-risk practices, such as the 100x leverage currently found on offshore platforms.
The introduction of these requirements marks a tightening of the regulatory environment for leveraged crypto trading within the U.S. Market participants are now focused on the formal adoption process of these regulations and the potential impact on major exchanges that may face new compliance challenges.
