According to the PYMNTS Intelligence June Growth Corporates Working Capital Index, between 49% and 60% of suppliers across major industries remain outside integrated order and payment systems. This lack of integration prevents finance departments from effectively managing cash flow and future obligations.
Data for 2025 shows varying levels of supplier integration by industry. Agriculture leads with 51% integration, followed by media, technology, and commercial travel at 49% each. Retail and marketplaces stand at 47%, while construction, fleet and mobility, and healthcare range from 42% to 44%. Manufacturing and professional services show the lowest integration at 40%.
Disconnected workflows force companies to reconcile invoices manually, limiting the flexibility to manage working capital. While traditional strategies focused on collecting faster and paying slower, integrated systems allow finance teams to treat payment timing as a strategic decision rather than an administrative deadline.
A July report from PYMNTS Intelligence indicates that 58% of small- to medium-sized businesses consider integration a critical factor when selecting technology solutions. Furthermore, 80% of high-performing enterprise finance teams utilize working capital tools like virtual cards, compared to only 2% of bottom-performing teams.
