Centrifuge is preparing a report on the structural differences between tokenized treasury and money market funds. While these products often hold similar assets like US T-bills, they vary significantly in fee structures, redemption terms, and DeFi integration capabilities.
The market for onchain assets reached $14.2 billion by mid-2026, marking an 8x increase from $1.7 billion in June 2024. Centrifuge's own total value locked ranged between $1.5 billion and $1.7 billion in late 2026.
A survey of 150 industry operators revealed that 86% view scaling distribution as their primary challenge. Furthermore, an assessment by Pantera indicates that only 12% of tokenized assets possess sufficient composability to integrate effectively with DeFi platforms.
Regulatory classification remains a key differentiator. Unlike stablecoins, tokenized money market funds are treated as securities. According to a May 2026 JPMorgan analysis, this status imposes transfer restrictions, KYC requirements, and jurisdictional barriers that hinder circulation.
