Cboe Global Markets is currently evaluating the introduction of perpetual futures contracts based on the Cboe Volatility Index (VIX). These instruments would eliminate expiration dates, allowing traders to maintain long-term volatility exposure without the need to roll contracts.

The project is in an early, exploratory phase. Cboe has not yet released official contract specifications, regulatory filings, or a projected launch date for the new product.

The company currently offers standard VIX futures, launched in 2004, with a multiplier of $1,000 per index point, and mini contracts with a multiplier of $100. The existing product lineup includes monthly and weekly expirations, as well as variance futures.

Cboe has previously expanded into digital assets, launching the BITVX index in March 2026 to measure Bitcoin volatility using options tied to the iShares Bitcoin Trust. Additionally, Volmex introduced a perpetual market for its BVIV index on Hyperliquid in September 2026.
