CATL has entered into a technology cooperation agreement with the Egyptian manufacturer BME. Under the terms, the Chinese company will provide licensing for battery pack technology, production equipment, and staff training to support local manufacturing operations in Egypt.

The new facility will be fully funded and constructed by BME. Its initial annual production capacity is set at 1 GWh, with a primary focus on manufacturing battery packs for heavy commercial vehicles. Long-term development plans suggest a potential capacity expansion to 5 GWh.

Future production at the site may include battery packs for passenger vehicles and energy storage systems for renewable energy projects. BME, a joint venture between MCV and Auto D, aims to supply local automakers directly, addressing a deficit in domestic battery production.

While the companies did not disclose the investment amount or a specific timeline for the plant, the deal represents a strategic expansion of CATL's overseas commercial vehicle battery business. The company holds a 39.9 percent global market share as of July 2026.
