CATL has initiated trial production at its new battery cell manufacturing facility in Debrecen, Hungary, as of September 22. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to reach a production capacity of 100 GWh, making it the company's largest site outside of China.

The launch follows a series of safety inspections conducted by Hungarian authorities. Operations at certain sections of the plant were previously halted after nine employees were affected by nickel exposure. CATL has since implemented corrective measures to address these safety concerns.

The facility is positioned to serve as a primary hub for the company's European operations, supplying batteries to automotive manufacturers producing electric vehicles within Hungary. During the testing phase, CATL will monitor safety and environmental metrics for local regulators.
