Harvey Schwartz, CEO of Carlyle Group, stated he does not anticipate further interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. His position contradicts the market consensus that expects a more aggressive tightening cycle to address persistent inflation.
Speaking at the Carlyle 2026 Global Investor Conference, Schwartz noted that the current economy is robust enough to manage existing conditions without requiring continuous rate increases. He attributed ongoing inflation to a strong labor market.
Schwartz manages assets totaling approximately $447 billion. He cited the resilience of cash flows within Carlyle’s portfolio as evidence of the economy's stability. He also expressed support for Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s leadership.
During the same conference, Carlyle announced a new partnership with MIT. The collaboration aims to research the integration of artificial intelligence into investment strategies, including deal sourcing, risk management, and portfolio monitoring.
Schwartz has led Carlyle since February 2023, following a career at Goldman Sachs where he served as co-president and co-chief operating officer.
