Canon is reportedly planning to split its flagship APS-C mirrorless camera lineup into two distinct categories. The company intends to develop a high-speed photography model, the EOS R7 Mark II, alongside a dedicated video-centric camera, the EOS R7 V.

The EOS R7 V is expected to launch between late 2027 and early 2028. It will feature a custom APS-C sensor with a resolution ranging from 24 to 26 megapixels. To handle extended high-frame-rate recording, the camera will incorporate an active cooling fan or a specialized thermal management system.

Targeted at filmmakers, documentarians, and streamers, the device will support 4K recording at 60p and 120p. It will also offer Open Gate shooting, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording, and support for Canon Log 2 and Canon Log 3 color profiles, as well as custom 3D LUTs.

The hardware design includes front and rear tally lights, a dedicated record button on the top panel, and specific controls for video-assist features like zebra patterns, false color, and focus peaking. The camera will support both ALL-Intra and Long GOP encoding formats.
