A camouflaged prototype of the first BYD Ocean Series MPV has been spotted undergoing testing in China. The vehicle features a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor positioned above the windshield, suggesting the integration of advanced driver-assistance systems, potentially similar to the DiPilot 300 suite found in other high-end BYD models.
The test vehicle displays a traditional MPV design with sliding rear doors and conventional door handles. This configuration differs from the experimental Ocean-V concept, which was introduced at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in April and featured a swiveling front-seat lounge and a retractable steering wheel.
Zhang Zhuo, general manager of the BYD Ocean Series, confirmed in August 2026 that the company plans to launch this new MPV model by the end of the year. While reports suggest the vehicle may share a technical platform with the existing Dynasty-branded M9, BYD has not yet confirmed these specifications.
The manufacturer has not disclosed official details regarding the powertrain, dimensions, or pricing for the upcoming Ocean MPV. The new model is expected to expand the company's current MPV lineup, which already includes the Dynasty-branded M9 and the premium Denza D9.
