BYD is testing a new ultra-luxury executive sedan under its high-end Yangwang brand. The vehicle, currently codenamed HU, features a design similar to the Rolls-Royce Phantom and is the first model from the company to include rear-hinged coach doors. The sedan measures approximately 5.5 meters in length, placing it in the same size category as the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-Class.

The flagship model is expected to utilize BYD’s quad-motor e4 platform, which provides a combined output exceeding 1,000 horsepower. Images of the vehicle show it at a BYD Flash Charging station, indicating support for megawatt-level fast charging. While official pricing remains unannounced, industry reports estimate the cost of the new sedan will exceed ¥2 million, or approximately $300,000.

The sedan is slated to be the first BYD electric vehicle equipped with solid-state batteries. Stella Li, executive vice president at BYD, confirmed that the company plans to debut its first vehicle featuring this technology in 2027. The battery division, FinDreams, aims to initiate limited production of sulfide-based all-solid-state batteries in 2027, with plans to scale to mass production by 2030.

Development of the new executive sedan has spanned three years. The vehicle is expected to make its official debut in October. While the new flagship may feature solid-state technology, standard models within the brand lineup are expected to continue using BYD’s current Blade LFP batteries.
