BYD plans to launch its first electric vehicle equipped with solid-state batteries in 2027. Executive vice president Stella Li stated that the company currently holds a leading position in both the technology and commercialization of these power units.

The company's battery division, FinDreams, intends to start limited production of sulfide-based solid-state batteries in 2027. Plans include scaling up to mass manufacturing by 2030, with initial implementation focused on premium brands such as Denza, Yangwang, and Feng Chang Bao.

Technical research at BYD covers battery chemistry, manufacturing processes, and the equipment required for mass production. According to chief scientist Lian Yubo, the technology has reached a critical stage, though several hurdles remain before full-scale commercialization.

Other major industry players, including Geely, Changan Auto, CATL, Toyota, Stellantis, and Mercedes-Benz, are also targeting 2027 for the introduction of solid-state battery technology. Broad commercial availability is expected closer to 2029 or 2030.
