BYD has filed a patent for an immersion cooling system designed for battery storage cabinets. The document, numbered CN 122868832 A, was published by the China National Intellectual Property Administration on October 5, 2026, following an initial application in March 2025.

The proposed design features a dual-chamber housing. The lower section submerges battery modules directly into a dielectric coolant, such as hydrocarbon or ester-based fluids, eliminating the need for traditional cold plates. The upper section remains dry and houses the electrical components.

A key aspect of the patent is the sealing mechanism between the wet and dry compartments. This solution ensures that electrical connections remain isolated from the cooling fluid while maintaining the integrity of the system. The technology is specifically intended for stationary energy storage.

The patent application is currently under substantive examination. BYD has not yet announced any plans to move the design into commercial production or implement it in passenger vehicles.
