BYD is expanding its Ocean series with a new electric hatchback officially named the Great Seagull. The model is positioned between the current Seagull and the Dolphin in terms of size and pricing. The company plans to launch the vehicle in China by the end of 2026.

According to filings with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Great Seagull measures 4,205 mm in length. This makes it significantly larger than the standard Seagull, which is 3,780 mm long. The wheelbase of the new model is 2,650 mm.

The vehicle features a 95 kW electric motor, an upgrade from the 55 kW motor found in the current Seagull. Expected technical specifications include the Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technology. The exterior design includes slim LED headlights and a closed-off grille, while the interior is equipped with a larger infotainment screen.

The Great Seagull is expected to offer advanced safety features, as indicated by the presence of a roof-mounted LiDAR. While pricing remains unconfirmed, it is expected to be higher than the current Seagull, which starts at ¥69 900.

BYD may introduce the model to international markets as a variant of the Dolphin Surf or Dolphin Mini. In Europe, the price is projected to remain under €30 000, positioning it as a smaller alternative to the Dolphin.
