Broadcom has launched VMware HyperArmor, a security solution designed to protect the hypervisor layer within VMware Cloud Foundation. The software aims to mitigate risks from stolen root credentials and unpatched vulnerabilities by providing administrators with additional time to test and deploy official security patches.
The tool operates directly at the ESX layer and includes virtual patching, which blocks malicious actions without requiring host reboots or infrastructure software upgrades. HyperArmor also establishes a baseline for permitted activity, automatically inventorying scripts and blocking unauthorized executables by default.
To enhance access security, the product integrates multifactor authentication into the ESX Secure Shell login process, requiring a time-based one-time password. It functions alongside existing tools like VMware vDefend and the VMware Avi Load Balancer to provide a layered security approach.
HyperArmor is compatible with ESX 8.x and later versions. The product is currently available for purchase through Broadcom and its partner network, though the company has not disclosed specific pricing details for the new software.
