Bose has released firmware update 10.12.12 for its flagship QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2. This update introduces Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast as beta features, marking the first time the company has integrated this audio-sharing technology into its hardware.
Auracast allows a single source device to broadcast audio to multiple compatible headphones or speakers simultaneously. The technology, which was first announced in 2022, is currently supported by a limited number of manufacturers, including Sony, JBL, Samsung, Sennheiser, and EarFun.
Beyond the new wireless capabilities, the firmware update improves audio performance over wired USB connections. These enhancements include better balance for gaming audio and chat, as well as improved compatibility with various web conferencing applications.
Bose plans to expand Auracast support to additional devices in the near future. According to company spokesperson Tim Williams, the next model scheduled to receive the beta firmware is the QC Headphones Gen 2.
