BMW has introduced the Concept 7 Protection, a vehicle designed to integrate ballistic security into the standard 7 Series sedan platform. The concept is based on the M760e xDrive model, featuring a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with an electric motor. This setup delivers a total output of 603 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, ensuring performance levels comparable to the unarmored version of the sedan.

The vehicle utilizes thicker bullet-resistant glass, ballistic steel in the doors, and fiber-reinforced composites to provide protection while maintaining the original exterior proportions and interior design. BMW has also included an integrated intercom system, allowing passengers to communicate with individuals outside the car without opening windows or doors.

The concept is engineered to meet the BayB standard, which focuses on civilian protection against common handgun threats. It is rated to withstand 9x19 millimeter rounds and .44 Magnum cartridges, addressing risks such as carjackings and street-level confrontations. This differs from the existing 7 Series Protection and i7 Protection models, which offer VR9-level protection against military-grade threats.

BMW currently positions the Concept 7 Protection as a study rather than a production model. The company intends to explore potential expansions of its security portfolio for private and corporate clients who require factory-backed protection without the visual bulk of diplomatic-grade vehicles. BMW has not yet disclosed pricing or a timeline for potential production.
