During its Capital Market Day 2026, BMW Group announced plans to expand its Neue Klasse platform lineup with a new entry-level electric vehicle scheduled for 2028. The model will target the European market, aiming to bring the platform's innovations to the compact segment.
While official details remain limited, industry reports suggest the vehicle could be the BMW i1, internally designated as NB0. The company confirmed that the Neue Klasse architecture will support various drivetrain types, including hybrid and combustion engines, to leverage economies of scale.
BMW also announced the upcoming reveal of the all-electric iX4 SUV coupé, expected later this year. Production for this model is likely to take place in Debrecen, Hungary, following the strategy established with the iX3 and i3 models.
The company is shifting toward an AI-Defined Vehicle concept, utilizing a new zonal electrical and electronic architecture. This system aims to integrate driver assistance, infotainment, and comfort functions through intelligent software and artificial intelligence.
Current performance metrics for the Neue Klasse show strong demand, with the iX3 model securing over 100 000 orders and more than 30 000 units already delivered. BMW reports that the iX3 has reached margin parity with combustion-engine vehicles in key markets.
