BMO has become the first Canadian issuer to integrate Mastercard’s embedded commercial payment technology. This solution allows corporate clients to manage virtual card payments directly within their existing software platforms, streamlining financial operations.
The integration utilizes the Mastercard Commercial Express framework. It enables treasury and procurement teams to initiate, approve, and reconcile transactions without leaving their finance interfaces. The system provides automated reconciliation data and granular control over spending parameters.
According to a PYMNTS Intelligence report, approximately 80% of small and middle-market firms intend to upgrade their embedded finance capabilities within the next 12 months. Among large firms, 63% report similar plans, as many already utilize established toolsets.
This initiative follows BMO's April launch of a dedicated platform for small and midsized enterprises. That service was designed to improve cash flow visibility and provide essential payment options for growing businesses in the middle market.
