Bitwise Asset Management has updated its long-term forecast, projecting the price of Bitcoin to reach $1.6 million by 2036. This estimate, published on October 28, 2026, by CIO Matt Hougan and Head of Research Ryan Rasmussen, assumes a compound annual growth rate of 34.3% from the current price of approximately $83,500.

The firm previously predicted a price of $1.3 million by 2035 with a 28.3% compound annual growth rate. The updated model anticipates that Bitcoin will capture 25% of the combined store-of-value market shared with gold. Bitwise also projects that Bitcoin will be the top-performing institutional asset over the next decade.

The report estimates an average volatility of 27.8% for Bitcoin, with expectations that this figure will decline over time. The projected correlation to US stocks is set at 0.43. Bitwise suggests that institutional investors may allocate between 1% and 5% of their portfolios to the asset.

The firm identifies several potential risks to this trajectory, specifically citing technological disruptions such as quantum computing and artificial intelligence. Additionally, Bitwise highlights that shifts in the regulatory environment could negatively impact current adoption trends.
