Bitwise Asset Management reports that Bitcoin rose by approximately 40–43% during the third quarter of 2026. The asset's price began July in the $58 500–$62 900 range and subsequently reached a peak above $87 000.

This performance represents the strongest third quarter for Bitcoin in over a decade. Bitwise notes a shift in market dynamics, as the recent rally broke the historical pattern where price increases were typically accompanied by declining implied volatility.

In mid-2026, Bitcoin's implied volatility, measured by the BVIV index, reached cycle lows at approximately 36.8. Both implied and realized volatility hit multi-year lows during this period.

Institutional demand showed resilience, with spot Bitcoin ETFs recording significant inflows in the third quarter, including $2,4 billion in a single week in late September. Additionally, US Treasury bond buybacks increased from $2 billion to $4 billion monthly starting in August 2026.

A survey of 15 institutional allocators indicated that none reduced their crypto holdings during market declines, with many increasing their exposure. These investors now categorize Bitcoin as a long-term asset similar to gold.
