The crypto exchange Bitget suffered a security breach involving the theft of nearly $388 million in digital assets. CEO Gracy Chen confirmed the updated figure, which exceeds the initial estimate of $350 million, following a comprehensive audit of the unauthorized transfers from the company's hot wallets.
The exchange, which is based in the Seychelles and ranks as the sixth largest globally by trading volume, identified the stolen assets as primarily Ethereum, Tron, and USDT. While the company stated that no Bitcoin was taken, tracking data indicates the attacker currently holds over $28.8 million in Bitcoin.
CEO Gracy Chen attributed the attack to North Korean hackers, citing similarities in IP behavior and on-chain patterns to known groups. The company has frozen withdrawals and is working toward a full recovery of the funds, with plans to announce a timeline for resolution once confirmed.
This incident follows a series of recent high-profile crypto security breaches. In July, hackers exploited a firmware vulnerability in Coldcard wallets to steal $120 million, and earlier this month, hackers withdrew approximately 4,000 bitcoins from the Blockstream Liquid sidechain.
