Bitcoin concluded the week ending September 20, 2026, at $81,159, surpassing its 50-week moving average of approximately $78,788. This milestone marks the first weekly close above this indicator since November 9, 2025, ending a 45-week period of trading below the threshold.
The breakout was triggered by a 6% single-day price increase on September 18, 2026, which pushed the asset above $81,200. Market data indicates this movement coincided with increased whale activity and a series of short liquidations. Following the close, the price stabilized within a range of $81,000 to $81,450.
The current price reflects a recovery of roughly 39% from the cycle low of approximately $58,525 recorded on June 30, 2026. This low point followed a 53% decline from the October 2025 peak, which exceeded $124,000.
Alex Thorn, head of Galaxy Research, analyzed 13 historical instances where Bitcoin reclaimed this moving average after a bear-market decline. In 11 of these cases, the asset did not revisit cycle lows, while two instances eventually led to new lows. Similar historical patterns were observed in 2015, 2019, and 2023.
