Bitcoin closed the third quarter with a 42.71% gain, marking the first time in history that July, August, and September all ended in the green. This performance follows three consecutive losing quarters. The asset currently trades at $83,702. Monthly returns were 7.36% in July, 24.95% in August, and 6.33% in September.

The August rally included a record one-week gain of $14,775 between August 17 and 23. September's positive close broke a 13-year pattern where every green August since 2013 was followed by a red September. Historically, September averages a 2.41% loss, but this year it marked the fourth consecutive month of growth.

Despite the Q3 rally, Bitcoin remains down for the year, trading approximately 4% below its 2026 opening price of $87,498. The asset is also 34% below its record high of nearly $126,000. Earlier this year, Bitcoin dropped 22.2% in Q1 and 14.09% in Q2, following a 23.07% decline in Q4 2025.

Market sentiment has shifted significantly, with the Crypto Fear and Greed Index reaching 71 by September 30. This follows a period where the index spent 106 consecutive days below 50. Analysts note that the current recovery fractal mirrors patterns seen in 2019 and 2023, occurring three months after the late-June lows.

Looking ahead, Bitcoin faces the $87,498 yearly open as a key resistance level. Historically, October has shown a median gain of 14.71% since 2013. Market participants are monitoring the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting on October 27 and 28, as well as the US midterm elections in November, for further price direction.
