Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas predicts that Bitcoin exchange-traded funds could eventually hold three times the assets of gold ETFs. He suggests this shift will occur as younger generations, who view Bitcoin as a primary store of value, gain more financial influence.

Bitcoin ETFs launched in 2024 following a decade of regulatory rejections by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. According to Coinglass data, these products have already reached nearly $100 billion in assets under management, marking a highly successful market entry.

Balchunas notes that while Bitcoin is currently volatile compared to gold, its adoption by institutional investors will accelerate as this volatility decreases. He expects a major inflection point when Bitcoin becomes a reliable alternative asset for large-scale financial institutions.

The analyst highlights that investors are increasingly using Bitcoin as a hedge against currency debasement and inflation. He points out that Bitcoin's censorship resistance and the inability of governments to confiscate the asset make it an attractive option for market participants.
