Trading on the Bitcoin.de platform remains suspended following the rejection of a MiCA authorization application by the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). The regulator denied the request submitted by futurum bank AG, a subsidiary of Bitcoin Group SE, which operates the exchange.

The company stated that it had prepared for a potential refusal and is currently reviewing the BaFin decision. Management is considering filing an objection or submitting a new application. CEO Moritz Eckert noted that the firm is now prioritizing the implementation of an alternative operating model.

Bitcoin Group SE is actively seeking to resume trading services through regulated partners. The platform, which serves over 1.1 million registered users, has been largely inactive since June 12. The company previously transitioned its infrastructure to support a brokerage model with plans to offer over 100 cryptocurrencies.

In August, the exchange confirmed that customer crypto holdings were moved to new custody infrastructure, while the legacy trading system was deactivated. The platform originally launched as a peer-to-peer marketplace before undergoing a transition to a brokerage service earlier this year.
