Bitcoin is currently consolidating within the range of $82,000 to $83,000, following a decline from recent peaks that exceeded $87,000. Analysts from CryptoQuant highlight a concurrent weakness in both Bitcoin and the S&P 500 index, a pattern that has historically preceded significant declines in the cryptocurrency market.
The current market environment is characterized by U.S. 10-year Treasury yields approaching multi-year highs. Analysts draw parallels to late 2018 and the period between January and April 2025, when rising yields and pressure on equities coincided with intensified sell-offs in Bitcoin. The S&P 500 has not yet undergone a substantial correction during this cycle.
Data from Fidelity indicates that market breadth remains tepid, with approximately 55% of stocks trading above their 200-day moving average. The cap-weighted S&P 500 index has shown little movement since early June, remaining caught between increasing capital costs and corporate earnings growth.
Market participants remain divided on the outlook. While some analysts emphasize the risks posed by macroeconomic factors and the potential for a deeper correction, others point to technical indicators such as a possible golden cross for Bitcoin. Experts suggest that the future direction of Bitcoin may depend on the performance of equity markets.
