BitBox has integrated Lightning Network support directly into its mobile BitBoxApp. This update allows hardware wallet owners to create a hot wallet for Lightning transactions without needing to generate a separate recovery phrase, as the wallet is derived from the existing backup.
The new functionality enables users to scan and pay Lightning invoices, send and receive bitcoin, and manage a Lightning address. Users can fund the hot wallet directly from their on-chain balance and sweep funds back, keeping long-term savings secure on the hardware device while using the hot wallet for daily spending.
The integration is powered by the Breez SDK, which automates channel management and liquidity, removing the need for users to run their own nodes. BitBox joins over 100 other partners currently utilizing the Breez SDK for their Lightning implementations.
