The Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU), established by Binance in July 2018, currently holds over $1.27 billion in Bitcoin. This reserve, designed to compensate customers in the event of security breaches, includes approximately $270 million in unrealized gains.

In mid-February 2026, the exchange converted roughly $1 billion in stablecoins into 15,000 BTC. The final purchase of 4,545 BTC occurred on February 12, when the asset was trading at approximately $67,000. By early May 2026, the price exceeded $81,000.

Binance has made the fund's wallet address public for on-chain verification. The company maintains a policy to restore the fund to $1 billion if its market value drops below $800 million. Previously, the fund covered a $40 million loss from a 2019 hack.

The exchange views the 15,000 BTC position as a long-term reserve asset. Binance cites the transparency and auditability of Bitcoin, as well as its utility as a hedge against inflation and counterparty risk, as primary reasons for the shift in strategy.
