Bitcoin has surged nearly 47% from its July low, reaching a price of $85 431. Binance Research notes that similar market recoveries often retest previous lows, particularly when the initial drawdown from the peak is relatively shallow.

The research identified a specific signal triggered when Bitcoin closes at least 40% above its cycle low while remaining 25% below its all-time high. Between 2011 and 2023, this signal appeared 7 times. In 5 cases involving shallower drawdowns of 30% to 38%, 4 instances resulted in a retest of lows within 43 days.

The current signal was triggered on September 3, with Bitcoin sitting 35.6% below its peak. Analysts suggest that shallower drawdowns indicate less exhaustion of forced selling, meaning the recent rebound may not reflect strong underlying demand compared to recoveries following deeper drops.

To maintain the current trend, Bitcoin must reach a new high above $126 200 before falling below the $57 800 mark. The asset currently faces a sell wall between $85 000 and $85 500, which requires increased trading volume and sustained ETF inflows to overcome.

Market participants are monitoring several October risks, including the October 31 repayment deadline for Mt. Gox involving 34 387.51 BTC. Additionally, upcoming US CPI data on October 14 and Federal Reserve meetings on October 27 and 28 are expected to influence price action.
