US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reported to the House Financial Services Committee on September 15 that recent Treasury auctions were among the two most successful in the last 20 years. He noted that foreign holdings of US Treasuries currently total approximately $9.3 trillion, which accounts for 30–32% of all publicly held debt, despite the national debt exceeding $40 trillion.

Foreign investment in US equities reached an average rate of 2.8% of GDP through June 2026, outpacing inflows into Treasuries, which stood at about 2% during the same period. The 10-year Treasury yield has risen above 5%, marking its highest level since 2007, while the 30-year yield reached 5.32%.

Bessent attributed the sustained capital inflows to regulatory certainty, tax policy, trade frameworks, and energy stability. He also highlighted that global volumes of dollar-denominated transactions continue to rise, reinforcing the status of the US dollar as a reserve currency.
