The Beijing 6G Air-Space-Ground Integrated Laboratory has been officially established in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area. The project is led by the China Unicom Research Institute and China Satellite Network Group, with participation from over 20 core industry entities, including universities and research institutions.
The laboratory focuses on key areas such as basic research, satellite-terrestrial integrated networking, core chips, and terminal equipment. Over the past year, the facility has achieved technical breakthroughs in satellite-terrestrial integration, vehicle-to-satellite connectivity, phased array antennas, and inter-satellite laser communications.
China Unicom has introduced its proprietary satellite-terrestrial integrated open interconnection platform, dubbed Unicom Xingchu, during the 2026 China Unicom Partner Conference. This platform represents a significant milestone in the laboratory's ongoing research and development efforts.
The Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area is actively developing a 6G SPACES ecosystem. The region currently hosts more than 80 upstream and downstream enterprises specializing in chip components, base station equipment, and satellite communication hardware to support the 6G industry.
