The Basis company has released version 4.7 of its Basis Dynamix Enterprise server virtualization platform. The update includes over 120 improvements focused on disk space optimization, deployment automation, resource management, and audit capabilities.
The platform now extends thin provisioning and linked clones to shared storage (Shared SEP). Disk space is allocated dynamically as data is written, and snapshots are managed automatically. To prevent storage exhaustion, the system triggers alerts at 75% capacity and blocks new disk creation at 90%.
Deployment of new compute nodes is now simplified to a single API call or form submission, with the platform handling registration and installation. Administrators can reserve CPU cores and RAM for software-defined storage to ensure predictable performance, with monitoring alerts set at 80% and 90% utilization.
The update introduces a new interface for managing PCI device connections and allows for CPU generation alignment profiles to facilitate virtual machine migration across different hardware. The platform now supports the Basis vCore 2.1 hypervisor, which includes updated system libraries and integrity controls.
Audit logs are now exported via the RFC 5424 Syslog protocol for integration with external SIEM systems, including Basis Virtual Security. Sensitive data such as passwords and keys are automatically masked in API calls and logs to enhance security.
Long-running operations like cloning and backups have been moved to asynchronous processing. The platform also features expanded SDN management, DPDK monitoring, and an updated graphical interface for the Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS).
