Bank of America has issued a formal warning to its customers regarding the security of their financial accounts in the age of artificial intelligence. The institution explicitly advised users against sharing their banking usernames and passwords with any third-party AI tools or agents that claim to act on their behalf.

The bank highlighted that disclosing credentials to AI assistants poses significant risks. These include unauthorized financial transactions, potential account lockouts by the bank's security systems, and the possibility of data leaks if an AI tool suffers a security breach. Such incidents could grant hackers direct access to customer funds.

The warning emphasizes that customers bear full responsibility for any activity resulting from the sharing of their login information. According to standard account agreements, users are held liable for actions taken by anyone, including automated agents, to whom they have provided their credentials.

Financial institutions are currently working to define how AI agents can interact with banking systems, particularly for autonomous payments. However, banks are simultaneously struggling to manage unauthorized access attempts by AI tools, leaving customers to navigate these security challenges independently.
