Bambu Lab has filed a patent application, US20260264331A1, for a new 3D printer heatbed design. The proposed structure features a monolithic heated bed body with a machined channel for the heating element, which loops through the surface to reach the corners. This configuration aims to improve print adhesion and quality, specifically addressing peeling issues during large-scale prints.
The patent describes a heating element housed within a recess that resembles the Chinese character for sunken or depressed. While the design may offer faster heating times, it does not support independent zone heating. The application also includes claims for a CoreXY 3D printer that incorporates this specific heatbed technology.
Manufacturing this component could prove expensive due to the machining required for the aluminum base, though the company may opt for a multi-layer assembly to reduce costs. The patent is currently a pending PCT application and cannot yet be enforced. If granted, the new design could lead to higher prices for replacement parts or future printer models.
