Aztec Labs has relaunched its privacy-focused wallet under the new name Nyx. The tool is self-custodial and includes features for earning yield. It operates on the upgraded Alpha V5 version of the Aztec Network, which went live in July 2026.

The V5 update improves transaction proving speeds by more than 2x and reduces costs by approximately 50%. The infrastructure now supports end-to-end private execution directly on user devices, ensuring that no intermediary server accesses transaction details.

The original zk.money wallet and Aztec Connect were discontinued in March 2023. The company shifted its focus to building a decentralized platform using Noir, a programming language developed by Aztec for writing zero-knowledge circuits.

The project is supported by the AZTEC token, which enables governance and staking. A token sale held in December 2025 raised between $59 million and $61 million, with over 17,000 participants. Most contributors, specifically 96%, invested less than $10,000.

Aztec Network is currently implementing community-operated nodes and sequencers. Future plans involve enabling private smart contracts on Ethereum and developing cross-chain privacy integrations to allow private asset transfers across different networks.
