AWS CEO Matt Garman announced on October 2, 2026, that the company will stop using nondisclosure agreements with government agencies for data center projects. This decision follows a similar move by Microsoft, which ended such agreements in March 2026.
The policy change follows a congressional inquiry initiated by Representative Jamie Raskin on September 30, 2026, which requested information on NDA practices from major technology companies, including Amazon and Google.
AWS also introduced a program titled Built Together, pledging more than $1 billion over the next five years. These funds are designated for community projects focusing on education, job creation, and energy access in regions hosting company data centers.
The shift in policy comes amid growing public opposition to AI infrastructure. Currently, more than 100 moratoriums on data center projects are under consideration across the United States.
