Amazon Web Services confirmed the permanent loss of customer data following Iranian strikes on its data centers in the Middle East. The incidents began on March 1, when drones targeted facilities in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. AWS reported that damage in the Bahrain region affected all three availability zones, while in the UAE, the mec1-az2 zone suffered irreversible data loss.

The company stated that the destruction exceeded the design capacity of its multi-zone infrastructure. Following the initial March attacks, AWS issued $150 million in customer credits and suspended billing in the impacted regions. The firm has spent the last six months attempting to restore regional resources and replace damaged hardware.

Subsequent attacks further complicated recovery efforts. A second strike hit Bahrain on April 1, and on July 24, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps used missiles to target remaining infrastructure in the same region, an event verified by satellite imagery. AWS continues to work on restoring services in the UAE and plans to provide further updates on Bahrain operations in early 2027.
