Amazon Linux 2027 is based on Fedora 44~45 sources with additional modifications. The new distribution is designed to optimize performance through the same x86-64-v3 builds, which assume the presence of AVX/AVX2 instructions, and the use of link-time optimizations (LTO) during package building.
// own a single instance of the AMD EPYC 5th Gen "Turin" (m8a.4xlarge instance) with 16 vCPUs, 64GB of DDR5-6400 memory, and 400GB of local storage, benchmarks were conducted to compare the performance of Amazon Linux 2023 and Amazon Linux 2027.
The software stack has seen significant updates. The default kernel version has moved from Linux 6.18 to Linux 7.1. The default compiler has been upgraded from GCC 11.5 to GCC 16.1, and Python has been updated from version 3.9 to 3.14. OpenJDK 25~26 updates have also been included, although these were already available in Amazon Linux 2023.
