Manufacturer Awekeys has introduced a new line of RGB-backlit metal keycaps designed for full-height MX-style switches. The product is scheduled to launch soon on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. The keycaps are crafted from recycled cupronickel alloy and feature internal plastic light pipes to channel RGB lighting through the characters.
The collection is available in six color variants, including gold, copper, silver, titanium black, obsidian black, and a special glow-in-the-dark neon option. Users can also choose between brushed or satin surface finishes. The light-transmitting characters are positioned on the north side of the keycaps, which may affect compatibility with keyboards utilizing south-facing RGB LEDs.
Pricing for the crowdfunding campaign starts at $169 for the 83-key base set. The 98-key set is priced at $199, while the full-size 116-key set will be available for $229.
